我想知這為甚麼要用from 用 the 不行?

這裡的for 是甚麼意思

The data can be prevented "from" getting lost. 數據可以防止免被丟失。

The preposition "from" here means:
used after words such as 'protect', 'prevent', or 'keep', to introduce the situation or action that is stopped, avoided, or prevented 免於〔表示阻止﹑避免﹑防止〕

The data can be prevented "the" getting lost. 為甚麼用 the 不行?

"the" is an article and must be followed by a noun or noun phrase. "getting lost" is a gerund phrase and not a noun phrase.
