It is given that y=x+5.
Is it true that y∝x? Explain your answer.

I think that when x increase, y increase, so y∝x. But the answer is no.
Can anyone explain to me? Thank you~

Incase of y ∝ x, y = kx where k is a non-zero constant.
That means when x is doubled, y will also be doubled.

y = x + 5
When x = 1: y = 6
When x = 2: y = 7

When x is doubled, y is not doubled.
Hence, y is not proportional to x.

y ∝ x means y = kx where k is a real number and k ≠ 0.

For y = x+5,
y = 1(x+5)
it can mean y ∝ (x+5) , where k=1.

∴Not true.
