It seems that taking notes as I read along makes me waste my time taking notes on unnecessary information.
Studying for a test, should I read through first before going back to take notes or should I take notes as I go along?

Everyone has their own studying technique, so I'm sure you'll get hundreds of different answers.
Just go with what you find is your technique.
I like to read the book and take notes. I like to do it that way because, how else would i know what to take notes on? Unless the thing I have to study for is online or whatever, but if it's from a book, then I like to read the book first. But that's just me.
