Swimming in contact lenses?

I've been swimming while wearing various types of contact lenses for thirty years or so. It has never been an issue.

its not safe at all. I know a girl who did that, and she went blind in one of her eyes.

It's safe to wear contact lenses while swimming if and if your goggles can protect them from water to leak inside. All those stories you've heard from online advertising can be possible though. It's kinda dangerous, because there are really a lot of bacteria in the water, which can hurt your eyes, but I'm in a synchronized swimming team and some of my teammates have to wear contacts during competition too, 'cause they really can't see, and we can't wear goggles during competition; so if you really cannot see without wearing contacts, then it's better to wear them, but you have to know that it hurts your eyes if it is exposed to water for a long time without protection, and don't wear it very often.
