Teaching English in China?

I'm currently a high school senior in my fourth year of Mandarin Chinese. I'm planning on majoring in it when I get into college, and was recently thinking about what to pair my Chinese major with. An occupation that interests me is the teaching of English to students in China. Does anyone have anything to say about this? Is there anything I should do now? What would be another good major to get if I wanted to do this? Thank you so much!

My son just returned from teaching English for 7 years in China. When he went he did not speak a word of Chinese. You actually do not have to speak the native language to teach people English. In the states in some mixed communities speakers of different languages are grouped into the same ESL class. That is not to say that you should not learn Chinese, but there are many other things you can do with it other than something that does not even require it.

Other than teaching and becoming an ESL teacher, you can also become involved with international business which needs Chinese speakers or translation. You can learn more about these jobs by searching them through this site, http://bitly.com/WOrNp9 .

How about English because you'll be able to work as a teacher when you return to the States. Other degrees might become obsolete after a few years of not using it, but you won't have that problem with English.

You could also get a high score in GMAT, GRE, etc. so you can teach exam prep classes while you're there. Just my suggestions.
