While you are at boot camp, all of the none-swimmers (aka sinkers) will be rounded up to take a swimming lesson. The Navy will only attempt to teach you how to float & claw your way from one side of the pool to the other, so you can pass boot camp (and you will still, more than likely, be a sinker after boot camp). It will not be very hands on and you will not have a whole lot of time to practice properly; there are too many sinkers and too little instructors as well as too little time on top of your regular training. You will be screamed at, you will panic, and you will cry. Therefore, do yourself a big favor and learn how to swim before going to boot camp (you do not have to be Michael Phelps; just know the basic will do). Look for a local YMCA, if there is a swimming class available.
