fall 可做名詞或動詞
動詞有五種型式,
fall, falls, fell (past tense), fallen (past participle), falling (present participle)

Pronoun + (auxiliary verb + present participle) + (preposition + noun)
Subject + present continuous + adverbial phrase

在這句子, falling不是名詞, 不是 gerund (動名詞)

進行式當然可以作動詞

fall 是 intransitive verb, “in love” 是 adverbial phrase.

Predicate is all that part of a sentence which is not the subject.

fall + asleep, silent, ill ~ OK
is falling in love 變成 is becoming in love, 怪怪地, 不同 is in love

falling in love, to fall in love,
Treating "fall "as a linking verb is beyond comprehension for most learners.
