Can holes in articles of clothing be repaired with a patch and a glue gun?

Some tears are not very easily managed with a sewed on patch, and this might be a good solution.

Sometimes, you sew on a patch and when the stiching comes out a week later, the hole has been enlarged..and you have an even bigger problem!!

Just for the record, they do sell fabric glue specifically for this problem. Check at Jo-Ann's ...

No the glue gun is not usually used for this type of repair. There are fabric glues that will work better, or you can iron some iron-on interfacing to it with a new piece of fabric in front and behind the hole, or purchase an iron-on fabric repair kit. All of these items may be found in a fabric store or possibly in stores that carry sewing notions.

Glue gun glue is much too stiff for this. How are you sewing if a sewn patch is coming off? Here's how I do utility mending: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/24395076 For an actual hole, I'd do much the same thing, starting with a scrap of knit interfacing to "bridge" the area under the real patch.

Maybe yes...though I have no idea why I am being asked to answer my OWN question. AND, I think "Home & Garden" would be a better category.

No - more importantly than stiffness, the glue gun glue will soften and release in the washer and/or dryer.
