What are taps, gas taps and electric sockets?

Taps are orifices that can be opened or closed for the dispersal of a product, the plain taps reference those for use with liquids such as water or beer. Gas taps reference such devices for gases such as natural gas or propane. Electric outlets serve the same function for electricity but as electricity flows in circuits, merely disconnecting the device is sufficient to halt the flow.
Taps and outlets differ from valves and switches in that they allow devices to be connected and disconnected rather than be permanently attached.
You don't know what 'electric sockets' are?
Look at what whatever you are using to access the internet. It needs charging sometimes or needs to be connected to the mains whilst you are using it.
What do you plug it into? An 'electric socket'. Question solved.
