✔ 最佳答案
Wh- + do/does/did + verb?

Wh- who, where, why, what
e.g. When did Mr Thomas die?
Where does she come from?

Do/Does/Did + somebody + verb?
e.g.Did you go out last night?
Does she like you?
Do you want to hang out?

--------------------------------------------------

Are/Is/Was/Were + adjective?

e.g. Were you too tired('tired' is like an adj. here)?
Are you hungry?

did you go out
were you tired
的關係吧

講番第一句
When did Mr. Thomas die? [不是died...其他人也解釋了]
想問的是Mr. Thomas死的時間,是問他是何時死(可能是問是被殺或自然死亡)的,所以問的意識是死這「動作/行為」的情形而不是狀態,所以用did。除了When did Mr. Thomas die?還可以問How did Mr. Thomas die?他是怎樣死的?(雖然中文意識上怎樣是狀況,但要留心問題其實是想問他的「死法」-是問死的動作的因由。

你似乎想問die可以問was的嗎?答案是可以的:Was Mr. Thomas dead when the police arrived to his house.
問的內容意識是問「在警察來到他家時他"死了未"?」是問他當時"死了"還是"未死"的狀態,因此不是問怎樣死或何時死這類動詞(行動),所以留意不是用died/die而是要寫為形容詞的dead來表達重點是問狀態。

由於問問題時所用的字詞有很多,希望讓你明白「動詞」=行動,而「形容詞」=狀態,跟問句寫法用did和was/were的意識關係。是要從全句的所問的重點來決定寫法,不是單單一個字的不同的。

When did Mr. Thomas die?
We always put the auxilliary verb of a question in front of the main verb. When there is no auxilliary verb in the question and the main verb is not 'be / is / am / are / was / were',we add a 'do', 'does' or 'did' there.

In 'When was Mr. Thomas died?', 'was died' is in past tense passive voice. It is illogical for the word 'die' to be used in passive voice.

In 'Were you too tired?', the word 'tired' is an adjective. The word 'were' is the main verb. When we answer that question, we say 'Yes, I am tired' or 'No, I am not tired.'

We do not say 'Did you too tired?' because 'tired' is not a 'verb'. 'Did' is an auxilliary verb in that question. There is no main verb in the question.

By the way, I have uploaded some videos on Youtube. This one answers you questions in detail. Hope you find it useful.

第一句應是
When did Mr. Thomas die?

其實你問得好好,初學英文是必定有這個問題。
即是用哪個 auxiliary verb,verb-to-be, verb-to-do 還是 verb-to-have。
