can we clean dog ears with cotton and alcohol?

If you're talking about cleaning the inside of the ear flap, a cotton ball moistened with warm water will do the trick just fine. But, a 12 week old puppy shouldn't really need his ears cleaned unless he's gotten into something. If you're trying to treat what you think may be an ear infection, or anything deeper in the ear, then he should be brought to the vet since the pup could well have mites or some other type of infection. Depending on the cause, different medication is indicated.

Again, a little outside clean up is fine, and I wouldn't use alcohol - just warm water. Anything inside the ear, take him to the vet and have it diagnosed.

There are better ear cleaning products available - vet. At 12 weeks old only I would probably just use a cotton ball, slightly moistened to wipe round just inside the ear. It's too easy to irritate the delicate insides of ears, especially in such a young puppy. Ask the vet what to use when you next take him in (vaccination). Or phone of course.

His breeder may be able to advise you also.

ps Puppies do tend to make more wax than adults btw.

we have 5 dogs and we clean their ears with equal parts warm water and rubbing alcohol. use a cotton ball but make sure it is entirely moist but not dripping. the dryness of the cotton ball can cause irritation because their ear canals are sensitive and any excess water left in the canal could cause infection. we have never had any problems occur due to using this method, and it always works!

As far as I know, alcohol is fine, just make sure not to get any in the ear canal, just around. A cotton ball soaked in warm water would probably be better though. But you could also always call your vet and ask for an ear cleaning solution for your pup.
