In theory, the answer is yes. In practice, the answer is no.
The problem is not from Australia, but Hong Kong (Official Receiver's Office).
One of the requirements for the visa application is a written proof that you have access to at least AUD$5,000.
The issue is since you are under bankruptcy, you are not supposed to that money (as it may be result in a criminal offense). However, Australia will not accept a written proof from your family.
Bottom line - unless you can clear this idea with the Receiver, you are looking for trouble.

As you said, Australian Government does not suppose to know.
So you should be fine.
(By the way, bankruptcy is generally accepted as bad moral character.)
