Best languages to study with Chinese History?

I am a history major about to enter graduate school, my focus is in Chinese history. I speak Chinese and am studying in Beijing to further polish my language. My end goal is to earn my Ph.D. in Chinese history. What other languages are good to learn for this field? Are any others so important as to be required languages in addition to Chinese for this type of program?

I will suggest you to apply through CUCAS, CUCAS is a professional online platform for international students to apply for Chinese universities, it has a strong relationship with over 300 universities in China. They do not ask for any fee, the application fee is collect by them but only on behalf of the university, CUCAS also hold social activities for international students so they will not get bored, they always try to think as a foreigner and help international students to solve their problems. Very nice.

Cantonese maybe? It's also a kind of Chinese.
Cantonese was a commonly spoken language in Chinese history before the Qing dynasty.
btw Cantonese is a spoken language which cannot be transformed into words. So you end up have to write Chinese anyway haha

If you're studying in Beijing, you're going to learn about a distorted version of modern Chinese history.

Probably depends which periods of history you intend to specialise in. For modern history, Korean or Japanese might be useful; further back Mongolian, or Vietnamese? Which international relationship interests you?
