So I'm going scuba diving soon and I want to buy a DSLR camera by like canon or sony but I was looking at the cases and they say "10 meter waterproof case" and I didn't know there was a certain limit of meters on a case. I want a good case that can go really deep but not so expensive. The most I'm willing to pay for the camera and case is 170. Please someone help. Help me find something that will not ruin my camera and will do the job and I gaurented to work and is not so expensive. If ican can spend less that even better.

The deeper you go, the more colors get filtered out, starting with red and working down ROYGBIV. If you go much deeper than 10m, you need an additional light source, strobes, real equipment. Even if you get a camera that's rated to 40m, it's going to give you crap photos without extra light.

If this is your first time scuba diving, I would strongly recommend skipping the camera. You should focus on learning the basic SCUBA equipment first. For photos, stick with a 10m camera and go out a second time just snorkeling. There are still lots of cool things to see at 10m.

Yes, there are depth limits and going beyond will burst the seals of the camera ruining it.

You won't get a dSLR with that budget and to think that reliable underwater cases sometimes cost more than the camera itself!

For these cameras below, no underwater case is required.

At your budget I would have to agree that a gopro would be the best bet. I would in NO way trust a 'housing' that costs less than $1000 with a DSLR in it while diving. If you flood the camera, which will likely happen in a case that costs less than that....chances are the damage will be irreparable. I personally shoot a Canon 7D in an Ikelite housing underwater. This is a VERY expensive hobby, aside from the camera and housing, the deeper you go, the more lights and strobes become a requirement.

Decide whether you want the thing you describe or the budget you describe.

Here is probably the least expensive adequate set:

Canon S110 $249
Canon WP-DC47 underwater housing rated to 130' (39.6 m) $238
Canon WW-DC1 Weight Set $23
Silica gel packs $10

Amazon has the Nikon AW120 marked down to $289. Its new f2.8 24mm lens gives it an advantage over its predecessor the Nikon AW110. It is still rated to 18 m (59 ft). However, Nikon advises against using this for SCUBA. Besides depth, time is an issue. Stay down too long even at less than the maximum depth, and water can gradually seep through the seals.
