= 1/4 - 1/4 + 2(1/2)p - p²

= 1/4 - [ (1/2)² - 2(1/2)p + p² ]

= 1/4 - (1/2 - p)²

Any perfect square ≥ 0

(1/2 - p)² ≥ 0

-(1/2 - p)² ≤ 0

1/4 - (1/2 - p)² ≤ 1/4

y = x² + 6x + 10 = (x + 3)² + 1

Minimum of y is 1, the corresponding value of x is -3

That is, y = (x + 3)² + 1 ≥ 0 + 1 = 1
