Is it a "health hazard" in Florida to go to school barefoot?

Some days I like going barefoot, and my teachers always tell me that I must wear shoes. I have seen the handbook and it only says what kind of footwear is allowed, but not that footwear is required. When I questioned my last period teacher about this when she told me I had to wear my shoes, she said that it wasn't in the handbook because the state lists it as a "health hazard" anyway.

It is not against the rules to wear open-toed footwear in general. We are basically allowed to wear anything that is not flip flops.

Saying that it's "so your feet dont hurt like hell when stepped on"...are they going to ban wearing shorts because we might trip while running and scrape our knees if we're wearing shorts? Because I know people who've ripped holes in their jeans by falling and their knees still got scraped (I myself have also had this experience).

I've been doing research since I posted this question and I have found that restaurants that do say "no shirt, no shoes, no service" are using those as THEIR OWN, AS IN THE RESTAURANT'S RULES. If not, they are simply unaware that this is not a state requirement for customers. Everywhere I have looked says that it is not required to wear shoes in public places in any of the 50 states (except for employees of a public establishment), but many people believe it to be so.

(Now that I have done some research and am probably going to get nowhere from this question on here (and this new update won't let me delete it), I would appreciate if there are no new answers, please)

Florida is notorious for hookworm, which you pick up walking around barefoot. You can also pick up (or leave for others to pick up) a variety of foot funguses & other infections. Wear your shoes to school. It is required. And it does not have to go into the school handbook since it is not a school rule, but state. AS with restaurants, no shirt - no shoes - no service.

Lots of people go barefoot every day without suffering injuries. The "health hazard" is usually exaggerated by those who never tried it, because if you aren't used to walking barefoot you will feel vulnerable, your way of walking will not have adjusted and your feet may be too soft. I'm certain this isn't the case for you so there's no rational argument against it.

You could insist to go barefoot to school because there is no rule, but the school management could react with a new rule that requires shoes (of a certain kind) to be worn.
So rather than seeking confrontation, it would be good if you could point out the health benefits to your teachers / principal. Perhaps arrange a private meeting for that and prepare a writeup; if you search you will find a lot about the health benefits of walking barefoot on the internet. You have lots of arguments on your side so prepare yourself and try to get into a discussion, maybe try finding a teacher that you can convince to support your side.

Coming with clean feet and bringing a small medipack with band aids in case of minor injuries would also be a good idea. Show them it's not unsanitary. Be polite and well groomed, give them a disarming smile and show that you are mastering your situation. Good luck!

It's not a health hazard, but the reason they say 'no open toed' is so your feet dont hurt like hell when stepped on, if your not wearing shoes what happens?

Shoes are required in every school in the US. It's really a sanitation issue. We don't know how clean your feet are or where they've been. If you cut or scrape your foot on anything you could spread blood in the school. That spreads infection. So put on some shoes.
