G'day, man. Beep codes indicate hardware problem. Most likely on your motherboard.
I think those beep codes you heard should be in blocks of 4 instead of 8.
Start up your laptop and listen to them carefully. Draw long and short lines on paper as you listen and plot the duration of each beep. Record about 10 beeps or so should be enough to tell.
Now look at the code pattern on paper. They should repeat in cycles, usually in set of four. For example, say, short-long-short-short-short-long-short-long-short-long-short-long-short-long.
You can see quickly the actual beep code is in blocks of short-long-short-long.
Wiht this info on hand, go to the Dell website, enter beep codes in the search box. This will bring up a beep code table. Correlate your codes down the table will lead you to find what exactly is wrong on your motherboard.
Laptop is a pain for DIY even if you know what the problem is. But if you do, at least you know what (repair cost etc) to expect. If the repair quote is too high, take a look at JB Hi Fi, Office Warehouse etc. Brand new laptops are fairly cheap for their quality these days.
Have fun, cheers. I hope you have regular backups for your files otherwise you could end up with an expensive repair job.
