2MnO4^-(aq) + 16H^+(aq) + 10I^-(aq) ----> 2Mn^2(aq)+ 5I2(aq0 + 8H2O(l)

An electrochemical cell is conducted by making use of the redox above. A salt bridge is used.

Why the salt bridge cannot be KCl / NaCl ?

The Cl⁻ would react with MnO₄⁻.

2MnO₄⁻(aq) + 16H⁺(aq) + 10Cl⁻(aq) ----> 2Mn²⁺(aq)+ 5Cl₂(aq) + 8H₂O(l)
