1. Because of the high specific heat capacity of water, a large quantity of heat is required to change the tempreature of water by 1'C. That is, water heats up and cools down much slower than other liquids.

2.(i) Used as a good coolant (冷卻劑).

(ii) Used in fomentation (熱敷) --- hot water bottles are used for fomentation, as the water remains hot in the bottle for a long time in spite of giving off large quantity of heat.

(iii) Prevent freezing (防止結冰) --- in cold countries, wine bottles are kept under water. Due to the high specific heat capacity of water, it takes a long time for the temperature to fall to 0'C.

3. The added water is used as a coolant to remove heat produced by the hot engine.
