1.
The type of interface used (SATA or IDE), where SATA has faster data transfer rate than that of IDE.
The rotational speed of the hard disk, high rotational speed hard disk will give faster data transfer rate.
The burden of data at particular time, if a lot of data is accessed at the same period of time, burden towards hard disk increase, hence data transfer rate is slower.

2.
It lists the names of each data set on the volume, together with location, size and permissions.

3.
Fragmented file means that a file is separated with blank cluster, or other fragmented file on the tracks of hard disk. Defragmentation can rearrange the fragmented file such that the file are merged together to enhance the data access rate towards the file.

4.
Backup copies to avoid any important data loss due to unexpected failure of computer system, e.g. electric shock and cause damage to hard disk.
