No one is at war with Russia ... for now.
Russia is just posturing since the Ukrainians government owes them money, and the civil war the Ukrainians are having means Russia may lose a great deal if the Ukrainian government collapses and starts anew.

The Bush administration enacted an early warning system along with other governments that would have kept Putin out! But 0bama killed it and left the Ukrainians and half of Europe undefended by missile strikes.
So whats next Poland?
Funny how conservatives were right about Russia and China, it doesn't matter what side of the political spectrum your on now... it's all to late.
0bama is weak and needs to relieve himself from office now!

Russia isn't at war with anyone. Ukraine is having internal conflicts very heavily funded by the U.S and the EU. Obama and his cronies (the EU) are trying to start a conflict with Russia, because Ukraine is part of their (meaning U.S/EU's) economical interests.

By sending in troupes, Mr Putin has calmed the situation and is trying to help - Obama needs to talk to Mr Putin along with anyone else who has questions and discuss with him, instead of reacting like immature school children.

At this time it appears that Russia is at war with Ukraine. Both were parts of the former USSR, and they border each other.
Even under Soviet rule, Russia had more power than the other states. And Putin is trying to maintain as much power over former Soviet states as he can.
The US is not involved directly; but of course it has an opinion; and the opinion of any major world power is always important.
A lot of people of Ukraine want to make closer ties with Europe and the more-or-less free market for business. Many also prefer to remain allied with Russia and Putin.
The US would prefer the first option, of course, and will probably put some pressure on Russia to back down. It is not likely that the US and Russia will go to war about this, though.

Russia is at war with the rest of the world to regain a position it 'imagines' to have lost as one of only two superpowers, when the cold war came to an end. The staging of the Sochi Winter Olympics and the vast sums it spent on it was a psychological gambit to 'upgrade' its status and should have prepared us for the events unfolding in the Crimea. Putin is seeing himself as in the 'command seat' of the 'mightiest country', which is a pose and delusion that can lead to great tragedy if we aren't careful. We have to defuse the crisis carefully and take time to deflate the frog that wanted to blow itself up as big as an ox.
