Where is the hope in atheism? And if it's not all about abandoning hope, then could an atheist please explain to me what it's all about?

I would explain, but I have learned that people that ask these kinds of questions really don't want to learn.Atheism is about taking responsibility and joy in personal choices.
Its about knowing I am responsible for my actions and my emotions, that I don't have some imaginary sky elf watching every action and thought and judging me for being human.
Its about accepting reality and knowing that its up to me to do what I can to make the world a better place.
Hope is abdicating responsibility, its about putting the accountability on someone or something else - hope is the ultimate in giving up.

"Hope" in what? Hope that magical fairies will sing koombaya with you after you die? Yes, there is no hope of that.
I have all kinds of hope. I hope I get promoted in the next year. I hope I get another raise like just came in last week. I hope it doesn't rain too hard in the morning since I don't want to carry an umbrella, or get wet. Etc.

It is more about abandoning "religion". The atheist's "hope" is that the universe will continue and that something "new" will surprise them, and provide a means of their end of the gene pool to be full and vigorous.

There's probably a difference between having "hope" and worrying about the origins of a universe so vast and mysterious that the human brain probably couldn't even contain or comprehend the details of its origin in the first place.

I think its about denial. The alcoholic can't accept that he is an alcoholic. The drug abuser can't accept that he is an addict, and the atheist can't accept that he will one day have to stand before God and give account of his life. Everyone has to deal with this reality. Christians run to God and ask forgiveness in Christ and escape judgment by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Atheists try to escape by denying that God exists. Problem is that Christians keep coming around and reminding them that he really does exist. That causes a deep fear to well up in them and they get upset and tell the christian to shut up. Like a hibernating bear awakened from a peaceful winters nap.
