WThe amount you paid in taxes. Pretty much Box 2 on your W-2.

There's still too many variables to be able to answer your question correctly. Why don't you just go online they turbotax ir hrblock like we ALL did and do your taxes?! It just takes a few minutes

"Or Do I add up Federal, Social, and Medicare"

Social Security and Medicare are FICA. This is a Mandated Tax and is NOT refundable.

If you only made $1,700, you must be the dependent of another. You cannot claim the Personal Exemption Deduction ($3,900) and must mark "Dependent of Another" on your return.

You can still claim the Standard Deduction of $6,100. This reduces your Taxable Income to $0.

If you made only $1700, I doubt the payroll withheld any Federal Income Tax. So, unless you have other information to report (business income, dividend or interest income, investment gains or losses) you do not have to file.

If there's a number in box 2 on your W-2, that's what you'll get back. If box 2 is blank or zero, there's nothing to get back. You do not get ss or medicare back.

You do not get back social security or medicare.

In most cases, if you make under $10,000, you will get back the federal income tax withheld, but even that is not definite.
