Why is there so much unfounded hate towards MSG?

People are consistently putting the chemical compound down and treating it as if it was Adolf Hitler him self. When in fact MSG is 100% natural. It is found in many natural foods already and is actually good for people who wish to reduce their sodium intake.

@Jeremy See thats what I mean. People have an unfound hatret towards MSG but have no idea what it is. It is simply a seasoning that enhances foods and gives it that Umami taste that is found in mushrooms and seaweed and stuff like that. The umami taste also comes in Soya Sauce due to the fermentation process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate The Aforementioned Link will be your best informer. People have tried for decades to find a fault with it but every time they have experimented with it there has been nothing conclusive.

MSG has had a bad reputation ever since a 1960's study in the New England Journal of Medicine published a report from ONE doctor, describing his OWN symptoms.
MSG is the sodium salt of the common amino acid glutamic acid. Glutamic acid is naturally present in our bodies, and in many foods and food additives.
MSG occurs naturally in many foods, such as tomatoes and cheeses. People have eaten glutamate-rich foods throughout history. For example, a historical dish in the Asian community is a glutamate-rich seaweed broth. In 1908, a Japanese professor was able to extract glutamate from this broth and determined that glutamate provided the savory taste to the soup. MSG is now produced by the fermentation of starch, sugar beets, sugar cane or molasses. This process is similar to that used to make yogurt, vinegar and wine.
The FDA considers MSG safe to eat. The average person consumes about 13g MSG naturally and about 0.55g added MSG per day. Glutamic acid has nothing to do with gluten.

Humans follow mindlessly without research or personal experience, en masse.

And the food world and the science world are just like the FASHION world, i.e. they move through FADS.

Whole wheat was once good, now there's "wheat belly".
Once butter was out, oleo and Crisco were in . . . now they're out and butter is the star.
Canola oil was great but now it's GMO so it's bad.
Soy products were the bomb but now GMO makes 'em bad.
Alcohol was a bad drug, now it is good for your heart.
Fat and cholesterol were HORRIBLE things to rid yourself of!! Now they are actually GOOD things, it is sugar that is so bad.
Chocolate was an awful poison, now it fights bacteria and helps your brain.

In 20 years we will be praising the health benefits of MSG, just hang on.

A final word - just use moderation (not too much, not too little) in everything and you will be happy.

It does affect a lot of people even if claim all natural. As for myself each time I had food that contain MSG it is immediate throwing up within minutes of eating.

I find that it doesn't really enhance the taste of food, and actually gives it sort of an odd, sweetish taste. Use fresh ingredients and cook with skill and you don't need msg.
