Why must guns be the weapon of choice?

Gun-advocates bring up the lethality of knives, cars, hammers and bats. So, what makes guns so special? I'm from Chicago, not Canada--so don't divert.

Because it gives a weak person a sense of strength they never had before. You take away that gun they will cower like a man without one facing another without one. Its all mental in my humble opinion. This answer does not apply to all men.

Imagine a perp brraking into your house with his unregistered gun that was passed around. And you were standing there with a bat.Would you:
1. Start talking about Obama and how awesome he was.
2. Ask him if he has Insurance,
3. Shoot Now, and know he wont harm anyone ever again.
4. Tell him that your house was a gun free zone.
Fact is, if you were the burglar you would stay away from a house that has a gun.

Guns are stealthier. Your not going to kill someone from 100 yards away with a knife. They'd see car coming. They'd see a guy with a bat and avoid them. It's much easier to survive a knife than a gun.

Gun becomes an impersonal object. Easier to disassociate the act.
Less strength to shoot then to swing a bat or stab.

Of all the arms available, guns are the most effective. Guns make that 90 pound female equal to the 240 pound guy that wants to rape her. Do you think she would have any real chance of stopping him if all she had was a bat or hammer?

Guns are a 16th century technology that happens to be the most effective way of killing someone or something. Even then, they're only dangerous when theyre in the hands of the wrong people. Guns are really here to stay. Think if they ever stopped making them they'd disappear? Think again. I know a guy who when he was in high school jimmy rigged a pipe and welded some things to it and sure enough, with the right load and what not, it worked like a cannon I'm not exaggerating this at all. Dangerous things are that easy to make and I'm really tired of ilinformed morons even bringing it up.

Well let's see, imagine you are being attacked by an assailant who has a knife or a baseball bat or a car. Which would you rather have to defend yourself, a knife or a gun?

As a Homicide Commander, I see weapons of all kinds used.
No doubt statistically a Hand Gun, Shot Gun or Rifle are the leaders.
Knives and cutting objects are next in line.
Then comes blunt force trauma.
Vehicles used as weapons next.
Poisoning.
The old fashioned push down a set of high steps.
Drowning.
Suffocation.
Animal Attacks. Dog, Snakes, Spiders
The point to be made is. If the act of Homicide is what is the motivator.
It will be done. Guns are the object most used. In my opinion. Simply.
And I hear this a lot. The gun did it. The perp who is the one time killer.
draws no correlation between the act and himself or herself. The gun
