Best way to travel around Italy?

My family and I are looking to Travel around Italy for about 10 days. I am the only one who has been there before and I was able to visit Rome, Florence, and Asisi. I would love to visit Tuscany again (including Florence, Pisa, & Siena), Rome but only for a little bit, possibly Naples (where my family is from), and one of the beaches on the Mediterranean. Other suggestions are also welcome!

My question is, what would be the best way to get around to all of these places? Would a tour be best? Or just map it out ourselves??

Train really is the way to go in Italy. Fast, easy, convienient, relatively cheap, and takes you pretty much every where you want to go. Along the Liguria Coast........the train literally HUGS the coastline. Some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever see by train.

Just map out where you REALLY want to go.........and find the nearest train stations.

I can strongly recommend, DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE YOURSELVES AROUND IN ITALY. You are not accustomed to the country and the drivers will not be patient for tourist to find their way around. It would also be a more grueling trip to travel yourselves. My advise would either be train (which I have never done) or a tour. I did a tour the southern capri, all the way up to rome. It was wonderful. I was able to sit back in the tour bus and relax. You get exclusive access to all the main touristy stops, if you do it alone you'll be waiting in lines forever, and they know the best way to use the time and show you the best places.

Train and bus. And in 10 days, there is NO WAY you will get to all of those places.

Don't drive. Italians are very charming and friendly, but get them behind the wheel of a car, it's like Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. Seriously, they'll MOW YOU DOWN. Take the train and enjoy the vehicular traffic for the spectator sport it is, especially in Naples.

Hi!
I suggest you to go to Venice and Milan too. They're really beautiful but I don't know if you can visit all of these places in only 10 days. In my opinion the best way to travel is by car because trains are not so good here.
