Perimeter =( 2 * length ) + (2*width)
P = 2l + 2w

the length is 2 * width + 2 so...
l = 2w+2

34 = 2(2w+2) + 2w
34 = 4w+4+2w
34=6w+4
30=6w
5=w

"Miller's front lawn is 2 ft. longer than twice the width"
L = 2W + 2

"the perimeter is 34 ft:
2L + 2W = 34

substitution
2(2W + 2) + 2W = 34
4W + 4 + 2W = 34
W = 5 ft

X
Y = 2X+2, But you have two of everything, therefore

2X
2Y = 4X+4 and this can be further derived

2X
4X+4

Equals

6X+4 = 34

6X = 34 - 4 = 30

X = 30/6

x = 5

width = x
length = 2x + 2 (2 ft. longer than twice the width).

Perimeter = 2*length + 2*width
34 = 2*(2x+2)+2x
34 = 4x+4 + 2x
34 = 6x + 4
30 = 6x
x=5.
Width is 5 feet.

Width = x '

Length = 2x+2 '

Perimeter = 2 ( length + width )

34 = 2 ( 2x+2 + x)

17 = 3x +2

3x = 15

x = 5 ' ANSWER
