Google search virus??

For the past little while, often when I search something on Google and then click on a link, I'll get redirected to a completely different page, an add or spam site.

Sometimes my AVG antivirus pops up and tells me I'm infected but then it fixes whatever the problem was and goes away.

I'm just confused as to what is going on as I've never had a virus that works this way before.

I'm using IE, not sure what version, I have Windows 7. (Yes I know IE sucks but Firefox started getting really slow one day so I switched.)

can anybody tell me what this is or how to fix it??

thank you

Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit
http://www.malwarebytes.org/antirootkit/

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from the link above
Run the file and follow the onscreen instructions to extract it to a location of your choosing (your desktop by default)
Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit will then open, follow the instruction in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats
Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so
Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed
Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process
If no additional threats were found, verify that your system is now running normally, making sure that the following items are functional: Internet access, Windows Update, Windows Firewall
If there are additional problems with your system, such as any of those listed above or other system issues, then run the 'fixdamage' tool included with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit located within the 'Plugins' folder and reboot
Verify that your system is now functioning normally

Use Malwarebytes' Antimalware to check for any nasty's and to remove any PUP's

NOTE: Decline the Free Trial of Malwarebytes Pro for now. Not needed for
detection nor removal. They do that for Free. You may try it at a later
date if you so wish

NOTE: To have Malwarebytes check for PUP's:
Open the program>>Settings Tab>>Scanner Settings
On " Action for potentially unwanted programs(PUP)"
Click the arrow and change to "show in results list and check for removal"

Your using IE, open the settings and make absolutely sure there are no other links listed where your home page link is. This area of IE is one of the most exploited areas of the IE web browser. Even though I fix and repair computers I am very Bias toward Third Party Anti Virus and Malware software and suggest people to install Microsoft Security Essentials. It is written in their program coding specifically for Windows Protection. If it doesn't do the job then consider Third Party Software.

Get malwarebytes. You have a redirector. That will get rid of it. The quick scan should do it.
