If you sleep with dogs, you get fleas.

Of course you could be perfectly innocent, but it will be darn hard for you to create enough reasonable doubt to keep you out of jail if the raid one of your friend's houses.

The principle of "constructive possession" can put you on the hook for anything that is on the premises under certain circumstances (unless of course your friends own up to the weed right away and stuck up for you......sure).

You think about what is more important, those friendships, or your future.

Yes, you can be charged. If you know they have a lot of weed, you are CHOOSING to go to the house of a criminal (and if he sells, then he is a felon). "Tell me who you hang out with, and I will tell you who you are". Ever heard that expression?

If you are the next door neighbor, you "could be prosecuted". If you are in the house when it is raided, it is up to the discretion of the cops whether you are arrested for drugs. Whether or not they do so depends on a lot of things, many of which you have no control over.

First, if you have the stuff in hand, expect to be convicted. If you don't, they may try to charge you with possession on the theory of "constructive possession". This says that anyone who has control over the dope is in possession. So, if it's within arms reach, you are "possessing" it, even if it's your friend's, he's been rolling joints out of it all night, and it's sitting on the table between you, and you've never touched it.

If you think that's mess up, imagine two guys going down the road, sharing a joint. One of them puts it in the ashtray just before the cop turns on his flashers behind them. The driver says, "It's not mine". The passenger says, "It's not mine". Do they both get off? No, because under constructive possession, they both control it. If one of them claims responsibility, he gets the charge, and the other one can call him as a witness at trial.

So, if you get charged for possession for someone else's dope, whether or not you get off may depend on whether they fess up and admit that it was really theirs, all theirs.

Yes you can be charged ignorance is not a defense. Say your friend needs a ride and you give
them a ride and you are stopped and they do a search and they find the drugs you will be charged
along with them.

You definitely can't be charged as long as he takes ownership and says its his. I have a possession of marijuana charge and there were 5 people there and I took the blame. Its a one person thing now if its a controlled substance its completely different but for a simple possession of marijuana he will only be charged.

Yes, it's called possession.

Say you had no clue and have your friend verify that you didn't know. You can't be charged with something you didn't know about.
