the figure shows an isosceles triangle ABC, where AB=AC and BC is the longest side. If AC=x+4 cm and BC=18cm, find the range of values of x.

由於你話BC係最長，咁AB同AC都唔會大過BC，咁X+4 <= 18，X <= 14。2014-01-02 17:06:55 補充：
你是說AB+AC=5嗎﹖那麼AB=AC=2.5，X+4=2.5，X會係負數，你諗真啲﹗

The shortest possible AC is slightly greater than 9 (half of BC)
So the lenght AC or AB is x+4 > 9; x > 5
The longest possible AC is when just equal to 18 (BC = 18 must be the longest side in this isoceles triangle)
So the AC or AB is x+4 < 18; x < 14
So the range of x is
5 < x < 14
