The Improvement of Social Welfare in 50 Years’ Time We can hardly find where Hong Kong is in the map, however, in such a small place, over five hundred million people live in. As the result, there must be many difficulties among these people that they need helps from others. The Social Welfare Department is an organization which gives assistance to the needy people and during the past ten years, it has been improved a lot. Social security, for example, when a man was injured or killed during a crime in the past, no compensation was given to him or his family but now it is changed. Besides, compensation is also given to the victims of floods, landslides etc. This scheme – the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Scheme was introduced in 1973.When the criminals commit crimes and are put into prison, what will happen while they are free? They maybe make trouble again, therefore, the services of probation and corrections are very necessary. In recent years, these kinds of services have been improved a great so as to let the criminals have much chances to become useful ones.On the other hand, family services, group and community work, rehabilitation and training had a great leap forward in the past. But it still cannot catch up with the need of the public so that the social Welfare Department has to try very, very hard to provide a better living for everyone in Hong Kong.
