why to use 16-bit system?

there are quite a number of people using dosbox to emulate a 16-bit environment, why?
what is the advantage of using the "old" system rather then just simply using a modern one?

except to play the old games.
更新1:

considering a simple task, does programmes in 16-bit runs faster than 32-bit's? I know that 64-bit programmes can allocate more memory and maybe also more advanced CPU commands.

May be for the safety reason, as the old system is more

difficult to be checked by nowadays system, they

can do their work safer, no worry others to

take away their information, or they may just need
