Would you get electric shocked if you touch this?

Just wondering, for all the plugs we use for home appliances, if I use my finger to touch the metal things(the plugs), while the other end is attached to the switched-on powerpoint, would I get electric shock?

Thanks.

YES! But most plugs are short enough that normal fingers will not fit between the plastic and the socket while the metal plugs are making contact with the metal inside the socket. Normally, only one side has power, but when the circuit is completed power flows through both sides.

plugs and powerpoints have different names and different configurations in different countries. A little search suggests that the standard Australian powerpoint looks like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=standard+australian+powerpoint&client=firefox-beta&hs=mFm&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=grqvUuX6KemnsQSYxoCwDg&ved=0CEIQsAQ&biw=1162&bih=724&dpr=1.25

With the nominal voltage set to 230 volts, 50hz a shock is likely from shorting two conductors.

Electrical wiring is designed for many considerations including safety, but this will not prevent a determined person from bypassing every intelligent application of that power. That is why we have the Darwin awards: http://www.darwinawards.com/
