I've just seen the Chinese version of Q4, which explains its true meaning. (b)(i) fills 4 boxes with 4 colours, the answer is (16C4)(4P4). (b)(ii) fills all 16 boxes, 4 boxes for each colour, so the answer is (16C4)(12C4)(8C4). (This is like choosing 4 boxes for blue, then 4 for red and so on.)

For Q2. A boy and a girl means a pair, not a group. One group is all 10 students in 5 pairs of boy and girls. Let A, B, C, D and E be 5 boys and 1,2,3,4 and 5 be 5 girls, so one group is A1, B2, C3, D4 and E5.

So A has 5 choices, B has 4 choices after A took 1 girl, C has 3 choices after A and B took 2 girls and so on. Therefore, total number of choices = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 5! = 120.

4a, 16C4
4b(i) 4!*(16C4) =16P4
4b(ii)4C1*(16C4)
