Sodium hydrogencarbonate decompose on heating according to the following equation:

2NaHCO3(s) --> NaCO2(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)

Calculate the volume of carbon dioxide that would be formed at room temperature and pressure when 2.5g of sodium hydrogencarbonate is heated.(H=1,C=12,O=16,Na=23)

please list out the steps,thx!

✔ 最佳答案
Molar mass of NaHCO₃ = 23+1+12+16×3 = 84

No. of mole of 2.5g of sodium hydrogencarbonate = 2.5÷84=0.02976

No. of mole of CO₂ formed = 0.0296÷2 = 0.01488

Volume of CO₂(g) = 0.01488×24 = 0.3571 dm³ = 0.36 dm³

24 in the above calculation step is the molar volume of a gas under r.t.p. (room temperature and pressure) condition.
