When 5.4g of limestone is heated strongly,2.2g of carbon dioxide is given out.Calcuate the percentage purity of calcium carbonate in the sample.(C=12;O=16;Ca=40)

CaCO3 → CaO + CO2

No. of moles of CO2­ formed = 2.2 / (12 + 16x2) = 0.05 mol
No. of moles of CaCO3 = 0.05 mol
Mass of CaCO3 = 0.05 x (40 + 12 + 16x3) = 5.0 g

Percentage purity of CaCO3 = (5.0/5.4) x 100% = 92.6%
