Its an indirect attack on China on behalf of the US.

Sri Lanka is one of the more recently acquired "pearls" in the Chinese String of Pearls, which still has some ties to the UK through the Commonwealth, but with very little actual leverage.

Although that said.. I won't say his "interference" will amount to very much... they'll probably just tell him to "pi$$ off".

In the alternate Cameron's calls for an investigation into government abuses against Tamils. might well backfire horribly as the Sinhalese are calling for an investigation into government abuses during the period of British rule prior to 1948.

The United Kingdom is an important member of the Commonwealth. Our Prime Minister has gone to Sri Lanka because there is a meeting of Commonwealth leaders. He is taking the opportunity to express Britain's concerns about alleged human rights abuses.

PS They grow Ceylon tea which is far more important to British well being than oil.

The meeting was set up by the Labour party. He is not there to sample the tea.

There is a Commonwealth meeting there and he appears to be an apologist for the Tamil Tigers?
