"Mohabbat" isn't a Hindi word...it's Urdu. Hindi word is "Prem" or "Pyaar". And just as "Love" has many shades/names, so have "Mohabbat" and "Pyaar". "Affection" is one of them. But "Kindness"??? I have my doubts. Kindness may be an offshoot of love...but it isn't "Mohabbat"...it is more like "Reham-dilli" or "Dariya-dilli".

A couple of technical/etymological questions for (((((Mama P'))))), if I may:

(1) Besides Love, does "Mohabbat" also mean Kindness and Affection?

(2) Is the word "Mohabbat" essentially Arabic in origin [likely imported into Hindi via Urdu/Persian]? ... The reason I'm saying that is because of: (a) the diacritic shadda (i.e. emphasis) on the letter "b", and (b) I've had a number of Arab colleagues, over the years, who have informed me that their name "Mohabbat" means Kindness/Affection.
