Apple MacBook Pro not booting, stuck on black and white screen?

The MacBook turns on, and all there is on screen is a large black and white lines (about 2 of each colour), and inside them are a few smaller squares. Is this a common problem? Can it be fixed?

reinstall your os

try putting in the recovery/fix CD it came with
