Asian from OZ can be called Australian?
Hi,
I'm asian but from Perth. Can I call myself australian? I thought of myself as australian until a few days ago I was trying to break out a fight in a bar and was yelled at "Get the f^^k out. You f^^en asian". I said "I'm australian mate. I was born here in WA". He goes "Youse are the all the same. You don't deserve to be australian f^^ken asian".
That wasn't very nice. Maybe he was just drunk.
Am I just asian like he said or am I australian?

I am Not White and a Pommie but an Australian citizen and I claim i am Australian
Okay the guy you came across was a racist idiot (wouldn't be surprised if he was drunk). Do not listening to idiotic, uneducated arseholes like him.
If you were born in Australia or have Australian citizenship you are an Aussie and that's reality whether a person like him likes it or not.
You're race is Asian but your nationality is Australian. You can be Asian. Black, Caucasian etc and be Aussie, skin colour/race doesn't enter into it.
Keep saying you're Aussie because that's what you are.
參考: I'm Australian
Of course! I suppose if you felt like it, you could say "I'm an Australian of Asian descent".
Eh, well I'm a persian who has lived in australia for like 14 years and have an american accent yet ive never been to america. weird, huh? lol anyway you are whatever you see yourself as. you see yourself as australian because you were born here, then heck youre an australian asian. f*&k what people say. some people will never get over they racist ways. Oh well. thats all i gotta say haha
By nationality I'm American. Born, grown and raised here. Got ancestors that date back during the prohibition era. Got the accent to boot.
Ethnically, I'm not Native American but still American by all means. Australia and America is similar in that concept. A country grown and thrived by immigrants.
