If x^4 ≤f(x)≤ x^2 for x in [−1,1] and x^2 ≤f(x)≤x^4 for x<−1 and x>1,at which
points k do you automatically know
lim f(x) ?
x->k
What can you say about the value of the limit at these points? Give reasons for
your answers.

If f(x) is a continuous function, then as lim x-> -1 - f(x) = lim x> -1 + f(x)

and lim x-> 1 - f(x) = lim x> 1 + f(x)

We automatically know lim x-> -1 f(x) = 1 and lim x-> 1 f(x) = 1

left hand limit should be equal to right hand limit if the limit exist

Do you have a condition that f(x) is continuous?

If not, nothing can be done.

myisland8132 說得很對,也可以談及該limit應是 1。

k = -1 and 1 for which you can tell the limit is 1.
