1.a) Prove that P(3,0) lies inside the circle x^+y^-8x-2y +12 =0
b) Find the equation of the chord which passes through the point P(3,0) and
has a minimum length of chord
I know part (a) , but can't do part (b) as i don't know what is minimum length of
chord

Chord is minimum in length when it is perpendicular to the centre of circle. Centre of circle is ( 4, 1). Slope between centre and P is ( 0 - 1)/(3 - 4) = 1, so slope of chord is - 1. Equation of chord is y - 0 = -1(x - 3), that is y = - x + 3
or x + y - 3 = 0.
