------The grammar syntax is a lingustic term.Clauses in apposition,in ellipsis, reduced clause are difficult:-
(1)Equivalent clause:-
eg:-He is young, but he is wise.
eg:-He is a doctor and she is a nurse.
where the conjunctions used are:-but,and ,or, for, so.
(2)Subordinate clause:-
They depend on the main clause, which cannot form a sentence itself:-
eg:-Though he is young, he is wise.
where the subordinate conjunctions used are:-though, if, because, as, when, while.
If it is a noun clause:-
eg:-(What he says ) is right.
eg:-This is (what he says).
If it is an adjective clause:-
eg:-He met a student (who knew you well.)----qualifies student.
If it is an adverb clause:-
eg:-I was reading a book (when he came.)---showing time
eg:-I am living (where she was born.)----showing place
eg:-He failed (because he was lazy.)---showing reason
eg:-I got up early (so that I might be in time.)---showing purpose
eg:-She was so tired (that she could not walk.)---showing result
eg:-(If it is fine tomorrow,)we will go on a game of football on TV.----condition
eg:-(Though she is ill,) she is light-hearted.----concession
eg:-He is taller (than I am.)----comparasion
eg:-Do (as you are told.)----condition
Ellipsis--omiting some words on purpose:-
eg:-Give me an egg and (---)him two.
----(note that "give" is omitted before "him".)
