Why do people believe in the Buy-Bull when Jebus said this stuff?

Jesus said the end of the world would be in his generation.
Jesus is talking of signs that will happen before the end of the world to his disciples)
(Notice: Jesus probably thought the stars were little lights attached to a solid rotating sky dome like everyone else at that time)
(Mat 24:29 NRSV) "Immediately after the suffering of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; *the stars will fall from heaven*, and the powers of heaven will be shaken.
(Mat 24:30 NRSV) Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see 'the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven' with power and great glory.
(Jesus now says to his disciples that their generation will not pass away before the end of the world)
(Mat 24:34 NRSV) Truly I tell you, *this generation will not pass away* until all these things have taken place.
(Their generation did pass away, but the world didn't end)

Christians like to say the word "generation" is a metaphor. They seem unaware Jesus also said the world would end before his apostles would "taste of death" as promised in Mt 16:28 and Mk 9:1.

In the first instance, Jesus was predicting the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple, which happened in AD 70. He gave the signs and advice for Christians to be alert to in order to avoid that. They did. Within that very generation!

There is more to His prophecy than that, however, because He also spoke of a time so terrible, it would have no precedent and that if God' didn't step in to shorten "those days", no flesh would be saved. That was not the days of AD 70. Clearly, this was a global event Jesus was speaking of.

Once this terrible time of trouble starts, the generation alive to see the start of those particular signs will not pass away until all things are fulfilled.

As for Jesus promising some of His disciples they wouldn't die till they'd seen the Kingdom of God coming (Luke 9:27), that was fulfilled about 8 days after Jesus said that. Three of the disciples were taken by Him up a mountain to pray, and there they saw Jesus transfigured with great glory, and Moses and Elijah appearing besides Him, to speak with Him. The Father's own voice came out of a cloud saying, "This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him."

It's never a good idea to lump a collection of Jesus' sayings together without differentiating the nuances of what was going on. AiH

Mark 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, TILL (heos an) they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

"Heos" with "an" gives this a hypothetical force.

Legend:

∧ and
~ not
∨ or
→ if... then
⊢ therefore

IF they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom (A), THEN they shall taste of death (B).

A → B

Matthew 23:36 contains no hypothetical, and the previous verses could be applied to their time.

Matt 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, TILL (heos an) ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

IF they say, "Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord" (C), THEN they shall see him henceforth. (D)

C → D

His return was conditional upon Israel's repentance.

Matt 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, TILL (heos an) all these things be fulfilled.

IF all these things be fulfilled (E), THEN this generation shall pass. (F)

E → F

Luke 21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, TILL (heos an) all be fulfilled.

IF all be fulfilled (G), THEN this generation shall pass away (H).

G → H

If we say, "But their generation did pass, therefore all was fulfilled" that is a Fallacy called Affirming the Consequent.

If we say, "But all was not fulfilled, therefore their generation should not have passed" that is a Fallacy called Denying the Antecedent.

ppl will try to fudge "generation" and are all bible scripture twisters.
Jesus did not say all this will happen and then the end of the "world". what He said was the end of the "age". the Mosaic Age did end with the resurrection of Jesus but was finalized with the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
the language of sun darkened and moon not giving its light is taken from the OT where similar language is used NOT for the end of the world but when judgment comes against a nation or people.

same language used when judgments came against Babylon and asseryian and egypt nations.
so Jesus is pronouncing judgment against the nation of Jews and it was finalized in 66AD-70AD with the destruction of Jerusalem. in that SAME GENERATION as those Jesus spoke to.

you error by mixing the 2nd coming of Jesus (end of time) with this coming of Jesus as Judgment against a nation.
