1. Ammonia and hydrogen gas react even there is no water for them to ionize? is this reaction still neutralization?
In the following question, both NH4Cl and CaO are dry. How can they react when there are no NH4+ or OH-?

2. I don't understand the last two sentences. weak acid continues to ionize during reaction, how is it related to amount of NaOH used? Isn't amount of NaOH used depends on the number of moles of the acid?

3. Do calcium and barium salts have precipitate reaction with alkalis? Some books say yes but some say no.. I'm so confused...

1. Ammonia and hydrogen gas react even there is no water .

I don't think Ammonia and hydrogen gas can have any reaction.What can be formed ?

NH3 + H2 ---> ?

Do you mean hydrogen chloride (HCl) ?

2013-10-05 01:02:09 補充:
Ammonium chloride is a thermal dissociate substance.

under heating

HN4Cl(s) --> NH3(g) + HCl(g)

then the HCl(g) reacts with CaO(s)

2013-10-05 01:04:22 補充:
neutralization is acid + base --> salt + water

NH4Cl is a salt, not an acid.

NH3 is not a salt.

This reaction is not a neutralization reaction.

Question 2.

Since there are only a few sentence. the whole idea is not clear.

If it refers to strong acid + alkaline and

weak acid + alkaline

If the number of mole of strong acid and weak acid are the same. (suppose both are mono basic).

2013-10-05 01:11:06 補充:
The number of mole of alkaline that required to react with both acids completely are the same.

Question 3

barium oxide (BaO) is soluble. Ba2+ will not form ppt. with alkaline.

In Question 2

If (solution B) is a weak acid, ...... used to react (with A) cannot be predicted.

It is hard to figure out what does it say.

Sorry,沒有看見你後來的補充 :

NH3(g) + HCl(g) -> NH4Cl(s) there are no hydrogen or hydroxide ions in the reaction mixture, so is this neutralization?

There is no water on the product side. It is not a neutralization.

'then the HCl(g) reacts with CaO(s) '
they can react in absence of water?

Yes. they can

carbon burns in oxygen is also a gas react with a solid.

It is possible.
