There is contrast in this sentence in which the shopping style of males and the shopping style of females contrast each other in their different foci, one on the merchandise and other more on the process.

"The news coverage on TV is wider compared with that in newspapers because many people have TVs and only a few people subscribe newspapers." There is comparison in this sentence in which the news coverage on TV is wider when compared with the news coverage in newspapers.

These have been applied in my answer above.
Sentence 1:比較兩樣東西不同之處- contrast each other in their different foci
Sentence 2:比較兩樣東西類似之處- .. on TV is wider when compared with .. in newspaper

If the question is to be taken literally: i.e.
"以下2句Which is comparison and Which is contrast" ?, then 意I思A's answer is correct. Without specification, "compare" means to compare similarites and / or differenes.

按我的英文老師說法
comparison = 比較兩樣東西相同/類似之處
contrast = 比較兩樣東西不同/相反之處

如按以上理念
兩句都是contrast
當然亦有英文文法書或老師會說參考內容中的key word
例如
句一的on the contrary = contrast 啦
句二有is ... compared = compare 啦
不過仍要注意compare是作出比較(如上講主要重點應該是相同相似或許少分別之處...而contrast是作出對比(主要是指出不同對立之處)

因此雖然句二用了compared意思是指比較電視跟報紙的幅蓋面/接觸人數而不是比較兩個媒體的內容，雖然是用compare但實質是指出其分別contrast。
