normal: architecture style

most = your sentences talk mainly about the style
normal = your sentences might talk something else more than architecture style, but still can be the architecture style

1. noun 1 + noun 2
名稱 compound noun
noun 1 修飾 (modify) noun.2
It tells something about noun 2 ~ what kind or what it is for.
許多時, noun 1 沒有適當 adjective
a tennis club = a club where you can play tennis
vitamin pill = a pill containing vitamin
phone bill = a bill for using phone
Purpose: car park, security camera
Means: fax message, phone call
Topic: war film, fashion magazine
Object: chess player, car theft

2. adjective + noun
要特別小心, 首先清楚知道adjective怎樣解
transportable system 是錯,
transportable (adj) = that can be transported 可運輸的
transportable system 解可運輸的系統, 可以搬來搬去,
不同 transportation system
historic textbook (有歷史性的教科書) 不同 history textbook (歷史教科書)
historic 是 adjective
話說回來, 有些專門名詞要用 adjective + noun
adjective + engineer,
chemical engineer (electrical, mechanical, civil)
例外 petroleum engineer, computer engineer 因無 equivalent adjective

sleeping pill (not sleep pill), smart phone (not smartness phone)

3. (noun1) of (noun 2)
(a) Noun 2’s noun1
house of Peter = Peter’s house
“of” 是 preposition, meaning owing, having, possessing

(b) Noun1 is part of noun 2 (whole)
roof of the house, front page of the newspaper

(c) Noun 1 is an expression of quantity
a pair of shoes, a litre of gas

(d) With an abstract noun 抽象名詞
the death of Diana, a man of courage

如果 noun 2 是短的 noun phrase, 不用這 format
不寫 the car of my friend, 寫 my friend’s car
如果 noun phrase長
寫 Robert Kennedy was the younger brother of former president John Kennedy.

如果noun 是東西 (inanimate thing), 通常少加 ’s 在noun上,
not the building’s front, 寫 the front of building
但是有例外, the ship’s name = name of the ship

Be careful with compound nouns describing containers.
a coffee cup = 咖啡杯 a cup of coffee = 一杯咖啡

English (noun) teacher = 英語老師
English (adjective) teacher = 英格蘭人老師

school uniform, not uniform of school

nervous system 神經系統 (adjective + noun)
legal system 法的體系 (adjective. + noun)
transportation system 運輸系統 (noun + noun)

不是世界上所有使用城市名稱做大學, 都叫 University of “City”, 用 "City" University 是獨一的意思.
有例外, New York University (NYU) 紐約大學, 不是 University of New York
紐約城市多過一間大學

其他的是University of London, University of Chicago, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne, University of Paris, University of Tokyo .. etc

Compound nouns 許多時是專門的名詞
如果不清楚, 要查字典, 特別連語字典 (Dictionary of Collocations)
無什麼 grammar rules 遵循,
困難是有例外, 最好多看英文報紙,雜誌

既然你對形容詞和名詞的基本結構和組合都明白，你提及的變化是就著詞(語)組(成)而成的意義來決定或習摜寫成那種形式，尤其實某些常用或常見的名詞組合時便會經過一段時間而形成。 用你的其中一個例子試解釋一下architecture的含意是建築(設計/實物)style是指藝術性的風格(名詞)，所以前附加的形容便要考慮跟氣格這意思的相互關係，如果寫成architectural style是指以建築設計的角度(知識/技術性)來描述這style。這建築物的個別形態，例如使用天然光，翼展形態，幾何圖形結構，流線型，等等如果寫成architecture style是指建築風格這類別的主題，兩個名詞結合而成是一項名詞類別而不是形容xx的風格。這組合名詞的內容是「哥德式」或是「羅馬式」或是「拜占庭式」或是近代的「維多利亞式」或是現代「玻璃幕牆式」寺等。 因此你另一個例子的transportation system的組合同樣不是要表達去形容某system是叫做一種運輸形的系統(現實亦不會用這意識來介紹一個硬件系統，藝術或理念性的系統-例如管理系統就會用前置形容詞)，而是指建構成運輸功能的這種系統。由此，鐵路、航空、航海、道路/汽車(每一種都是一種獨特的運輸方式系統)。 另一組問題xxxx of yyy主要是指在y裏可能有很多不同的xxxx類東西，而現在講的是這類，但假如是yyy xxxx則是表達在yyy裏唯一的xxxx。例如你話library of hong kong其實文法上的錯的，一是說 a library of hong kong在香港裏的某一問圖書館，一是說the library of hong kong在香港唯一一問的圖書館，一是說libraries of hong kong香港裏的所有圖書館；而假如寫hong kong library意思一間叫做hong kong library的圖書館(暗示/意會是香港唯一的圖書館)，假如是指香港的圖書館(指政府的公共圖書館體系或指所有的圖書館)則要寫成hong kong libraries. 可以留意這些小小”a” “the”和”s”便含有指導性的作用。 有一個實用的例子香港大學Hongkong U其實正名是The University of Hong Kong，但是無論是歷史原因它那時是香港唯一的Hong Kong University還是只有一間university的名稱叫Hong Kong這組合都是獨一的意思。
