Buying golf club for a beginner?

I'm a beginner. Should I just buy one club (and what kind of club?) for practicing my swing or a complete set? My friend has recommended me to buy a complete set; however, since I'm a beginner, I don't know whether I should spend that much of money this soon.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net

I dont know if this is too much money, if it is, find cheaper on the Pinemeadow website or just buy a used set of clubs for beginners.

I would suggest you to practice with a 7 iron only on a driving range. Buy a used iron set on ebay for a pretty cheap price. When you have basic swing, you can opt to buy a complete set.

When I started I borrowed a putter and a 9-iron from a friend for my lessons. After my lessons were over and it was time to go play golf I needed to buy a set of clubs. So, it depends at what stage of lessons you are at. See if you can borrow a couple of clubs from your friend, or ask your instructor if they rent clubs for your lessons. Ask your instructor what clubs you will need for the lessons. If you need only a few clubs you can get some on ebay, or maybe your local golf course has some long unclaimed clubs they'll let you use.

If you have already started lessons, and know you'll continue to play golf then go buy a moderately priced set. Don't get the cheapest set in the store, a moderately priced set will be of better quality that you can play a decent round and not get frustrated with the clubs. Or if you really get into the game you can get better or custom fit clubs.

After my lessons I was looking to save a few dollars at the time and bought cheap clubs. That turned out to be a waste of money because I couldn't hit any one of them well. It's better to put your money into better quality equipment, which I wound up doing several months later anyway.

You don't need a complete set as a beginner. But you will need driver, putter, and at least half the irons. Get them at a flea market or lawn sale. You'll know when you get good enough that the clubs are holding you back. It could be a couple of years.

I bought a used set at a yard sale for $10 and while they aren't great the price was right. I'm able to play cheaply until I get better.
