in/at the beginning

in the (very) beginning of the story才正確。

在這句的意思/表達/內容寫法上at是錯的，

at the beginning是指某事件的特定開始時間
唯有當你表達某事情的開始時間才會這樣寫

故事看似有開始...但不是時間上的開始...所以只會用in...

用同樣的詞語，如果你是講作者開始寫故事的話便會用
At the very beginning when the story was written, ...
但這句意思和主角是表達作者的寫作時間，而不是故事內容的先後。

有點講多了，但希望你明白兩個pp都是有用的。

In the beginning和 at the beginning用法有三點不同。第一，說天地初開的時候，一般用 in，不用 at；第二， at the beginning之後，常接 of片語（ phrase），而 of片語在 in the beginning之後十分罕見；第三，說「在開端的地方」，習慣用 at，不用 in，例如：（ 1） In the beginning there was no life on earth（世上最初沒有生命）。（ 2） Hong Kong was emerging from an economic depression at the beginning of the century（本世紀開始時，香港正逐漸擺脫經濟衰退）。（ 3） Her name is mentioned at the beginning of the poem（詩篇開端提到她的名字）。
