(a)
a nichrome wire is repeatedly heated in a blue flame and cleaned withconcentrated HCl until the wire imparts no colour to the flame. Dip the cleanedend of the wire into concentrated HCl and stick a little of the powderedcompound onto the wire. Put the compound into the outer part of a blue flameand observe the flame colour.


(b)
In flame test, X gives a brick-red flame. Hence, X is a calcium compound.
X gives a white precipitate when reacting with acidified silver nitratesolution. Hence, X is a chloride compound.
Hence, X is calcium chloride.
